If you’re staying in a Spanish tourist resort, English will probably be enough for most situations. Outside these resorts the situation is completely different, where hardly no one speaks the English language. This goes for young Spanish people as well. If they knew English they would probably want to speak all day in English, but the thing is that most people don’t have a clue.
But as mentioned, this has nothing to do with any aversions towards English. It’s just that they don’t learn it in school.
