Roque Nublo is one of the more famous landmarks of the island of Gran Canaria. This site offers breathtaking panorama views of the beautiful surroundings, and on a clear day you can even see Tenerife and Teide. Roque Nublo is a must if you decide to explore the central parts of Gran Canaria, something that we definitely recommend!
Roque Nublo is one of the more famous landmarks of Gran Canaria. Situated in the center of the island, and surrounded by the mountains of the Tejeda region, this monolith monument from the volcanic era of the Canary Islands erects 80 metre vertically up into the sky. Since we´re talking about the montanious center of the island, this means that the top of this monolith feature elevates 1,813 metres above sea level.
Roque Nublo means something like “Rock cloud”, and has a special meaning to all Gran Canaria inhabitants. The view from this plateu is breathtaking, and it´s not very hard to imagine why the Guanches, the aborigines of the Canary Islands, used this place for rituals and cults.
On a clear day you can easily spot Tenerife and it´s sometimes snow covered volcano of Teide. Roque Nublo offers some of the best panorama views of the Canary Islands, and is well worth a visit. Remember that you will have to walk for a couple of kilometres to reach this site, so bring comfortable shoes, as well as a bottle of water as summer temperatures can be high.
